National Recovery month

Every September, we come together for National Recovery Month. This is a time to honor the courage it takes to face addiction, celebrate the strength of the recovery community, and lift up the people and providers who make healing possible. Most of all, it’s a time to celebrate you and the progress you’re making.

Recovery is not easy. It takes courage to face this disease and strength to choose a new life, day after day. As one reminder says:

“Recovery is something you have to work on every single day—it doesn’t get a day off.”

When the road feels long or the challenges heavy, remember this:

  • You are stronger than you know. Just like the body heals, your mind can build new pathways to support your recovery.
  • You are never alone. Millions of people are living in long-term recovery. Lean on peer groups, family, friends, and your community when you need support.
  • Healing is possible. “Healing is an art. It takes time, it takes practice. It takes love.” Give yourself patience and grace.
  • Every step forward counts. No matter how small, each victory is proof of your progress.
  • You are worthy of a life filled with love and purpose. As the saying goes: “The goal isn’t to be sober. The goal is to love yourself so much that you don’t need to drink.”

Your recovery is proof of your strength, your resilience, and your hope.
Every milestone—big or small—deserves to be celebrated.

POWER SURGE BLOCK PARTY!!

This past Saturday, September 20th, we hosted the Power Surge Block Party in our Bundrant Garden. We partnered with another local non-profit, Free My City, for this exciting event. Attendees enjoyed live entertainment, a cookout, and various vendors. It was a fun block party where people got out and met new individuals who share a passion for empowerment and unity!

  Bundrant Neighborhood

Free My City is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to help minimize crime in our cities by inspiring, cultivating, and challenging independent artists to commit to the betterment of their communities.

The event was a great success, bringing together community members and supporters of both organizations. We're grateful to everyone who participated and helped make the Power Surge Block Party a memorable experience.

CALL FOR ARTISTS

2026 Hearts of Killeen Call for Artists

Are you an artist in the greater Killeen metro area? Do you have a story of Overcoming to express and share? Would you like bragging rights AND a $3,000 cash award for painting YOUR winning "OVERCOMING" themed painting onto the 4x4ft heart sculpture (which WE'LL provide and later install) in Downtown Killeen for generations to enjoy??? If YES, then this CALL FOR ARTISTS is for YOU!!

The Hearts of Killeen Sculpture Series is an annual juried contest created and coordinated by our Community Art Initiative (CAI) to support local artists and celebrate the hearts and cultures of Killeen. Each year we will select a theme and promote a Call for Submissions for art reflecting that theme to adorn a heart sculpture created locally by CAI member, artist and veteran Perry Draper (owner of the Art and More Store). Each year, the winning art and sculpture will be unveiled at the annual Celebrate Killeen festival in April.

Please contact Outreach@killeencreators.org with any questions or to submit the below form.
